Parasites cleanses have become somewhat of a craze in the alternative health world. Sometimes it's hard to tell if crazes are legit or just money-making schemes. In our experience we've seen chronic symptoms disappear after addressing parasites, so we do think that they can be the underlying cause of many health issues. As long as cleanses are done responsibly, they can be a valuable tool to support your health.
Do I have Parasites?
If you're considering a parasite cleanse, one of the first questions you're probably asking is if you even have parasites. It turns out, parasites are common and can be found everywhere, not just in third world countries and uncooked meat. They’re on fruits and veggies, in rivers, lakes, and soil. Even with proper sanitation and hand washing, it’s impossible to avoid them. Your risk of parasites increases even more if…
you have pets (especially if you let them sleep with you or lick your face)
you farm/raise animals
travel to developing nations
work in childcare
swim in lakes/rivers/ponds
eat raw salads
eat sushi/undercooked fish or eat pork
So if you're wondering if you have parasites, the most likely answer is YES.

Symptoms of Parasites
One way to tell if parasites are causing you health issues is by looking at your symptoms. Symptoms of parasites include...
Gut issues, such as bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea
Loose stools containing blood and mucus
Low energy
Brain fog
Insomnia, or inability to sleep through the night
Itching or rash around the rectum or vulva
Allergies and sensitivities
Irritability or mood swings
Anal itching or fissures
Night sweats
Eye floaters
Migraines or headaches
Loss of appetite or hungry all the time
Bed wetting
Frequent cold, flu or sore throats
Skin issues like itching, hives, eczema, rashes, etc
Iron, b-6 and zinc deficiencies
Do any of these sound familiar to you? The root cause could be parasites, especially if your symptoms get worse around the full moon!

Are Parasite Stool Tests Accurate?
So, if you're suspecting parasites, the next step would be to get a stool sample, right? Well, not quite. Here's the thing....
If your stool samples are taken at the wrong time of the parasite's life cycle, it will not be present in your stool and you may get a false negative. Furthermore, if stool samples are stored improperly you will also get a false negative. A stool sample has to be put in proper storage within 30-60 minutes, which doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room. Lastly, some parasites can be tricky to identify, so if you don’t have a highly trained technician examining the sample, these parasites would also be missed. All that leads to a lot of false negatives!
So what do we recommend instead? We recommend evaluating symptoms and trying a parasite cleanse if it seems like parasites may be the problem. In our opinion if you are alive in our modern world, you will most likely benefit form a parasite cleanse. In fact, many ancient cultures around the world had parasite cleanses build into their yearly and seasonal rhythms. Let's take a hint from ancient wisdom! :)
If you're really wanting to verify the presence of parasites before testing, you can also come to one of our locations to get a frequency scan. This will tell you what parasites are present in your body. You can also re-scan at the end of your parasite protocol to make sure it was effective!

Anti-Parasite Protocols
So what does a good protocol look like? A parasite protocol spans over a minimum of 60 days and includes three essential elements:
Anti-parasitic herbs. These are the herbs that kill the parasites. They include things like oregano, thyme, black walnut, and wormwood.
Biofilm busters. Many parasites will gather together and secrete what is called a biofilm. This is a sticky barrier that can form around pathogens that make them more resistant to antibiotics or other killers - including those herbs! Luckily we have more enzymes that can help break down the biofilm, allowing our anti-parasitic herbs to work. These include enzymes like serratiopeptidase, glucoamylase, and cellulase.
Binders. These are crucial to a parasite cleanse. When you are killing off parasites your body needs to flush them out of your body. Furthermore, studies are finding that parasites can harbor heavy metal or viruses, and release them into your body when they die. Binders will attach to these toxic materials and flush them safely out of your body so they don’t keep cycling around and cause problems. Binders include things like psyllium husk, charcoal, bentonite clay and zeolite.

Note: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should not participate in a parasite cleanse. Children should be at least 3 years old to do a parasite protocol. If you are struggling with chronic health issues that make your body unable to detox properly, you should speak to a health professional before doing a parasite protocol.
When to start your protocol
If you can, begin your parasite cleanse around the full moon, when parasites are most active. This is the time they will often come out of their biofilm to lay eggs, which make them more susceptible to anti-parasitic herbs.
Why does this happen during the full moon? The brightness of the moon at night means your melatonin levels are lower, which makes your immune system less active. This means it is an opportune time for the parasites to reproduce. At the same time, your serotonin is higher, and since parasites have serotonin receptors this also makes them more likely to reproduce during the full moon.

Combining light therapy with a cleanse
Parasites are persistent and very resilient little guys. So sometimes it's best to come at them from multiple directions. Light therapy uses wave lengths that kill the specific parasites in your body. Like the frequency that causes the glass to shatter when the opera singer hits an exact note, this specific light frequency will "shatter" the cells making up the parasites. Learn more here!
Preparing for your cleanse
The success of your cleanse can depend on how well you prepare for your cleanse and support your body during the process. If your body is unable to do its job and handle the parasite die off, it can actually make you feel worse and unable to complete your cleanse and get rid of the parasites. Here are a few of our top tips:
Make sure you are detoxing properly. If you are not, you are much more likely to have adverse reactions as toxins build up in your body. Two main signs to check for when evaluating your detoxing abilities are the following:
Regular bowel movements. Bowel movements are a major pathway for getting toxic waste out of our bodies. You should have at least one, ideally 2-3 bowel movements a day.
The ability to sweat. If you cannot sweat you should not do this cleanse because it is a sign that your detox ability is hampered. If that’s the case, please schedule a discovery call and we’ll help you figure out next steps for improving your ability to detox.
Start slow. Both protocols offer different versions of the parasite protocol based on if it’s your first time or if you’ve done a cleanse before. It’s important to choose the appropriate level, or you may face unpleasant symptoms. If you’re not sure which level to start on, please reach out!
Eat an anti-inflammatory, toxin-free diet starting 4-6 weeks before your protocol. This will help your body be better able to handle the extra toxins coming its way as parasites die off. This means no gluten or dairy, and eating organic when you can. Avoiding sugars and high starch foods are also helpful, as those are foods that parasites love.
Do a liver detox within 6 weeks before starting the parasite cleanse. This will help your body get rid of any excess toxins so that it will be better able to handle toxins released during the cleanse. Check out our detox program here!
How to support your body during the cleanse
Your body is doing a lot of hard work during the parasite cleanse, so it's important to give it everything it needs to do its job. We cover lots of ways to support your body during our Parasite Cleanse Prep Course, but here are a few:
Encourage lymph flow. This helps move toxins through your body for elimination. Things like lymph massage, lymph focused exercise, rebounding and dry brushing can help with this.
Support detoxification with a coffee anema or castor oil pack.
Eat anti- parasitic foods. These include papaya seeds, cucumber seeds, coconut oil, pumpkin seeds, onions, probiotic rich foods, garlic and apple cider vinegar. This will provide a little more parasite-killing action.
And through it all make sure to give yourself a lot of rest, laughter, and nourishing food.
